What is your lower back saying?

Pain is part of our life, right? But should it be ignored, or hidden by taking medication, to allow us to continue with our daily lives?

Your body is how you move about in this life, it is how we interact with everything – work, family, the environment etc. The body cannot be separated into physical, mental, emotional and spiritual – it is all these and therefore an imbalance in these areas can manifest as pain. It can be said that “illness is created within our body when we are resisting changes or issues within our lives”

For example: low back pain. Most of us will experience this in our lives. Our upright spine is unique to being human and you can read a great deal about someone’s current mood by standing behind them. Victory or defeat, success and failure, pride or shame and every degree of self-esteem – all very apparent simply by looking at their stance.

It could be that you have over worked and pulled a muscle. Maybe you have trapped a nerve, or got a joint stuck. But – there are other stresses that shape the back. We need to embrace the body-mind-soul aspect of the pain (metaphysical).

The back represents our support system, so problems with our back usually mean we feel we are not being supported. It is also linked with finance, the lack of money, fear of not having enough, fear of material loss, the fear of your own survival.

The lower back is connected to the having in your life (having a home, money, a spouse, children, a good job, a diploma, etc.). You believe you must have it all in order to feel supported, but you don’t want to admit this to yourself or others. Many people want to be independent – to do everything by themselves.

A metaphysical cause of pain is the real reason that your physical body does not heal. It is the emotional and spiritual issue that you have not addressed, which becomes manifested in your body as physical pain. Because your brain will not acknowledge this issue, your body needs to keep hounding you until you pay attention.

If you are interested in finding out more about this a couple of books to read would be:

  • Your Body Speaks Your Mind by Deb Shapiro
  • Heal Your Body by Louise Hay

Whether you subscribe to metaphysics or not, the fact is that you simply must not ignore pain. It is your body’s way of telling you that there is a problem – whether you recognise it or not.

The first step is to alleviate the pain and diagnose the root of the problem. At Shefford Osteopathic Clinic, we see people fast – usually within 48 hours. You don’t need to tolerate unnecessary pain. Let’s start your path to recovery. What is your lower back saying?
